Areas of Interest: I focus my substantive research on at-risk populations of young children and their parents in the United States. I am interested in understanding (a) the development of children's temperament, (b) protective parenting factors in high-risk contexts, (c) culture and its role in parent-child dyads, (d) children's bioregulatory functioning (e.g., sleep, cortisol) and adjustment, and (e) preventive interventions in early childhood. I approach my work from an ecological perspective, which acknowledges the role of contexts (e.g., family, peers, school, culture, time) in development. My methodological interests involve multi-level modeling and latent variable modeling of longitudinal data.
