Manuela Jiménez is an assistant research professor with the T. Denny Sanford School of Social and Family Dynamics at Arizona State University. She received her doctorate in educational psychology – applied developmental sciences from the University of Virginia. Prior to her doctoral studies, Jiménez worked on the development, implementation and evaluation of Aulas en Paz, a socio-emotional learning program for elementary-aged children in her native Colombia.
Jiménez is interested in understanding how to better improve the support provided to teachers to engage in high-quality teaching practices that effectively promote children's learning, development and well-being. To achieve this goal, Jiménez's research focuses on identifying teacher characteristics associated with their engagement in high-quality practice, as well as features of teacher education and professional development that are directly related to improvements in practice. Jiménez then uses this research to inform the development and evaluation of professional development programs for early childhood and early elementary teachers.
